Long Lost by Lord Huron

Long Lost is an undeniably nostalgic tribute to both the past and present of Whispering Pines Studios, and features Ben Schneider’s soothing guitar strums, atmospheric keyboard lines, and vocals – which convey both absence and presence within our lives.

Lord Huron hails from Michigan and their music evokes an adventurous yet melancholic feel, being featured on shows like 13 Reasons Why and garnering fans from generations past and present.

Band Members

Ben Schneider founded Lord Huron as a solo project, drawing upon his background as an art student to form the band. Following their debut album ‘Into the Sun’ and follow up EP ‘Mighty’ being well received online, Schneider brought in Mark Barry (percussion/vocals/backing vocals), Miguel Briseno (bass/vocals) and Tom Renaud (guitar/vocals) as friends so he could turn his songs into live bands with full live arrangements.

Similar to Mumford and The Lumineers, They share much with other indie folk bands making waves such as Mumford and The Lumineers; yet their sound possesses its own sense of history – singing songs about moonlit lakes, deserts whose size cannot be measured accurately and sacred dunes.

Their lyrics often portray melancholic scenes with an air of optimism that cannot be missed. Drawing inspiration from multiple cultures and genres, their music serves to bridge cultural gaps. From singing of long lost lovers or simply wandering aimlessly through Los Angeles at night – their songs take you on an epic odyssey through both space and city alike.

Lyrics

Lord Huron creates songs filled with magical imagery based on real experiences of their band members and others alike, such as “The Night We Met”. Their rhythm and style create an immersive listening experience which draws listeners along for the journey.

Ben Schneider of Michigan first recorded some songs on an old reel-reel tape machine for what would later become his Into the Sun EP in 2010. As his project evolved and expanded with full band support for 2012’s Lonesome Dreams record, its rustic charm became more refined without losing its authenticity.

Following the success of their debut album, Vide Noir went on a successful tour. Their dreamy folk-adjacent sound conjured images of desert sunsets, snowcapped mountains and two-lane highways – as well as haunting vocal harmonies. From Vide Noir’s woozy psychedelia to 2022’s Long Lost’s lush open road fantasies; their music established them as leaders within this genre.

Sound

Lord Huron stands out in an indie music landscape characterized by quickly produced songs that don’t leave much room for interpretation or growth, with their big sound making you feel as if you are on an American Southwest road trip. Their melodies provide ample room for exploration while being enhanced by rich harmonies that map out where to travel next.

Michigan native Schneider and his bandmates Mark Barry, Tom Renaud and Miguel Briseno create an ambiance with their music that transcends its individual parts. When their debut album Lonesome Dreams was released in 2012, listeners were mesmerized by its expansive instrumental landscapes and romantic lyrics.

Since 2015, the band has released three more albums: Strange Trails (2015), Long Lost (2018) and Vide Noir (2017) to great acclaim from both critics and fans. Each release explores new sonic territory while taking listeners on an unforgettable sonic journey of captivating musical landscapes, mythological storytelling and captivating harmonies.

Live Performance

Lord Huron stands out in an age of pop music that often fails to leave any lasting impression, offering the musical equivalent of an immersive dreamscape. No wonder they’ve garnered such a devoted following!

As Lord Huron opened with ‘Back from the Edge,’ audiences witnessed Lord Huron’s signature world building present on all their albums – from their spaghetti western-esque record ‘Lonesome Dreams’ through to ‘Strange Trails’ and now their travel-centric record ‘Vide Noir. Each song tells its own narrative firmly rooted in nature.

Ben Schneider donned his signature cowboy hat and skull mask to capture the audience’s attention, performing vocals and harmonica that mesmerized listeners. Vide Noir made an unforgettable impact with their visual performance of Vide Noir; when leaning into Vide Noir a light up version of their emblem was projected onto the stage adding to its visual experience and leaving every member of their audience smiling upon exiting Generac Power Stage.
